Exploring Color Through Light
The Process
-
Constructing a Sculpture
A temporary sculpture of paper and foam core is constructed
-
Meticulous Lighting
The paper sculpture is lit with extreme precision and attention to detail to avoid shadows and light spill contaminating each color
-
Capturing the Sculpture
The camera is placed level with the center of the sculpture so that edges and depth disappear
Painting with Light
Light is both paint and brush. It is both physical tool and intangible medium that must be sculpted and refined. In its undisturbed form, white light is the sum of all color. To create pigment, one must subtract unwanted wavelengths. To control form, one can block or soften or bounce or focus each beam. To paint with light is to manipulate the invisible and make it palpable.
