The Other Art Fair Brooklyn, Fall 2023

The Other Art Fair is a sort of counter fair hosted by Saatchi Art. The fair is for unrepresented artists to meet collectors and have a direct relationship with the people that will be living with their art.

The fair curators also create collections on Saatchi art for their attendees to view some of the artists. I had the pleasure of being selected for two of those; The Fair Director's Picks and the Autumnal collections.

This was my first time showing at an art fair and it was I was admittedly a little nervous to have my work seen (and judged) by so many people. I had only begun selling my work six months ago after all.

My most memorable experience from the fair, and a moment I will cherish for the rest of my career is my first sale to a stranger. On the second day, an 11 year old girl walked up with her father. She had seen my booth from across the room and was excited to come over. We talked for a while about how I light and photograph the sculptures. I explained a bit of the color theory that dictates how I lay out the colors. The father was colorblind, but the young girl was enraptured by the colors. When he asked his daughter which one she wanted, she pointed at Divided Color-fields #110 and said that it was her favorite. It is mine as well. #110 had been the first piece that I printed and framed. It had been hanging on my wall for around five months and I had grown so attached to it. It was a bittersweet moment to let the piece go, but I love that I got to share  my favorite one with her.
